10/22 In-room meeting participants can now join breakout rooms

Now it is possible to join breakout rooms despite your working location - with this new feature meeting hosts can also assign conference rooms to breakout rooms


Extending breakout rooms to all meeting participants, whether they`re joining remotely or in the office, ensures everyone can engage in collaborative working sessions.


How to create breakout rooms

  • In advance on Google Calendar: 

  1. Create a new Google Calendar event.

  2. Click Add Google Meet video conferencing.

  3. Click change conference settings Settings.

  4. On the left, click breakout rooms > define the amount of the rooms and add participants. 

  • During a meeting:

  1. On your computer, start a meeting.

  2. At the bottom right, click Activities   > breakout rooms

  3. Click set up breakout rooms (amount, participants etc.)


How to join breakout room

  • Your moderator will create breakout rooms and invite you to join one. 

  1. Join a meeting.

  2. When your moderator invites you to join a breakout room, you`ll see a prompt on your screen > click join.



Availability: Available for Google Workspace Business Standard and up.

Timeline: Rapid & Scheduled Release: Full rollout starting on October 24, 2022.
